Powertrain Options

Both the Silverado 1500 and the Sierra 1500 come with six impressive options this year starting with a 4.3-liter V6 rated at 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. The next step is an available turbocharged 2.7-liter engine with 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque.
For drivers who need more power, there are three V8 engines to choose from. The popular 5.3-liter V8 comes in two variations this year. Both are rated at 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque; however, one comes with Active Fuel Management, while the other comes with the upgraded Dynamic Fuel Management. The third V8 option is a 6.2-liter that delivers an impressive 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
The sixth engine option — a 3.0-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel — will be available later in the model year.
Cost
Both the Silverado 1500 and the Sierra 1500 offer all of the above; however, one costs more than the other. The Silverado 1500 has a base MSRP of $28,300, while the Sierra 1500 starts at $37,800. So, the Silverado is the better bang for the buck.
